Why is this water filter system better than others?

A. The Premium 10 Stage Water Filter contains the premier, patented, 10-Stage contaminant removing filter. It lasts three times as long as the common carbon block filters (1500 gallons versus 500 gallons).

What does the Premium 10 Stage Water Filter remove?

The Premium 10 Stage Water Filter removes or greatly reduces the following: chlorine, cancer causing organic/chlorine compounds called trihalomethanes (THM), bad odors, e.g., hydrogen sulfide which gives water a rotten egg smell, pesticides, herbicides, PCB's, toxic heavy metals i.e., lead, cadmium, organic arsenic, asbestos, micro-organisms (protozoa and cysts) such as cryptosporidium and giardia, and dozens of other lesser known organic contaminants.

What does the Premium 10 Stage Water Filter leave in the water?

Inert minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and chlorides and fluoride.

How long does the replaceable water filter cartridge last?

Each filter cartridge should be changed after 1500 gallons or a maximum of 18 months. This would be approximately one year for a family of four, assuming they each drank: 1/2 gallon a day and the family washes fruits and vegetables in filtered water. After replacing the water filter run water through the unit for 2-3 minutes.

Note: It is increasingly important to use filtered water for a variety of kitchen needs besides drinking water. For example, more and more imported fruits and vegetables have been found to have giardia or cryptosporidium on them plus these hard shelled cysts can be present in your water supply. Filtered water is recommended for rice and pasta since boiling does not remove chlorine from water.

How do I change my water filter cartridge?

Unlike many brands, you do not have to throw the whole system away. You simply unscrew the housing, remove the old cartridge and drop in a new water filter cartridge. To make it easier to open your housing, soak the entire unit in hot water (1 gallon) and white vinegar (1 tablespoon) for about 10-15 min. Take the unit out while it is still hot and turn the housing counter-clockwise.

What are the Effects of Chlorine in the Shower?

Chlorine is a toxic gas which attacks living cells. It was used during World War I as a chemical warfare agent. It is used today as a additive to drinking water to kill harmful micro-organisms. While this can be an important health benefit, chlorine itself is far from beneficial: it attacks organic material, such as the skin and skin oils, which dries out the skin and hair. Because chlorine vaporizes along with the hot water, it is inhaled into the lungs. It is also absorbed into the skin. According to some experts, five times more chlorine enters the body through the skin during a shower than enters through drinking 8 glasses of chlorinated tap water!

How Does the Premium Shower Filter Work?

A patented mixture of zinc and copper called KDF-55, plus crystal quartz, converts chlorine into zinc chloride. Zinc is considered to be helpful in alleviating dandruff and is used in anti-dandruff shampoos. Unlike carbon, KDF stands up to hot water and is very effective in filtering out chlorine, odors and dirt particles. KDF possesses strong bacteriostatic character, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, fungus, algae and mildew. The Premium Shower Filter contains 16 oz. of KDF and 2 oz. of crystal Quartz for enhanced performance and natural water softening.

How Long will the Premium Shower Filter Last?

On average, the filter will last about one year. Initially, the filter will remove 98% of the chlorine. Over time, the removal percentage declines until it is at about 87% after one year. Accordingly, we recommend annual cartridge replacement. To make it easier to change the filter, we recommend soaking the entire unit in hot water (1 gallon) and white vinegar (1 tablespoon) for about 10-15 min. Take the unit out while it is still hot and turn it counter-clockwise.

Premium Shower Filter- Installation and Operation

• Unscrew and remove the existing shower head from the shower arm (1/2 in. pipe).
• To minimze water drips, wrap the included teflon tape around the shower arm and the filter  (optional).
• Screw the Premium Shower Filter onto the shower arm and screw the shower head onto the Premium Shower Filter. Hand tighten only- over tightening can crack the filter housing.
• The Premium Shower Filter is now ready for use. Simply turn on the water as usual. The very first time the Premium Shower Filter is used, the water may take a minute or so to flow through.
• To replace the Premium Shower Filter make sure that you keep the O-rings in place and rub them with olive oil or petroleum jelly. You can also use the olive oil or petroleum jelly on the threads of the housing to make it easier to open next year.

Warranty

The Premium Shower Filter housing has a one year manufactures warranty from date of purchase for defects or cracks. The life of the cartridge can vary depending on the water conditions and usage; therefore we cannot warranty the filter.
